<div><div style="font: 11.0px Lucida Grande; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">The bike looks a bit complete but we still need to fire up the engine, put the brakes, electronics, windshield, etc... No hurry finishing our little project because my son can only do repairs during Sundays or holidays and that is when he is free from school and his other activities. Probably it will take him another year to finish this but since he is only 13 years old, no real rush. I still need to find missing parts like winker lamps, front upper brake hose, handle lock key cylinder, left side cover, carburetor overhaul, etc. I'll upload more photos when we find time to do some repairs.</div></div>iWrenchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887386041202601099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8422212556262312151.post-4726551596387202322010-05-09T07:05:00.001+09:002010-10-21T00:54:01.180+09:0015<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHSg652NDrP6b_6rM0UnQRIiFExXNteOwgzHV_yf9DoUCYfbYwNAL19fniwmzBgHroInHwZBk8dzxKTuHH2DZACLQWcbsjg4kQ5Sa16sjFwaj_yAqaytb6JTIZpWoBOKkUT276U-r-ZgY/s1600/a.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469024171115177410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHSg652NDrP6b_6rM0UnQRIiFExXNteOwgzHV_yf9DoUCYfbYwNAL19fniwmzBgHroInHwZBk8dzxKTuHH2DZACLQWcbsjg4kQ5Sa16sjFwaj_yAqaytb6JTIZpWoBOKkUT276U-r-ZgY/s320/a.jpg" style="height: 320px; width: 240px;" /></a></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Before installing the air filter box and electronics.</div></div>iWrenchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887386041202601099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8422212556262312151.post-55633045728471214202010-05-09T07:03:00.001+09:002010-10-21T00:53:37.345+09:0014<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUd_9mCc0-B6qPwMhyphenhyphen5mSBNoh58q3qy4T7XW3FEqREBF9t0TuuYkmXK3JZvH-TTjL6kdqyIxfK8azoZIb1Q2L5Nmm4rmxtkyAZgJaa8J7ehn0RJGF1sr9Xqd_tNZMyktF8i3pWfD1AZNA/s1600/c.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469023329350048514" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUd_9mCc0-B6qPwMhyphenhyphen5mSBNoh58q3qy4T7XW3FEqREBF9t0TuuYkmXK3JZvH-TTjL6kdqyIxfK8azoZIb1Q2L5Nmm4rmxtkyAZgJaa8J7ehn0RJGF1sr9Xqd_tNZMyktF8i3pWfD1AZNA/s320/c.JPG" style="height: 240px; width: 320px;" /></a></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Checking the seat after installing the seat's locking unit.</div></div>iWrenchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887386041202601099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8422212556262312151.post-30564507560575881892010-05-09T07:01:00.001+09:002010-10-21T00:53:12.069+09:0013<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNtrOdiLP9fgpEbuUrAZHyJlODk0uwZz_LwY-2zeOyugZnbA6qvOImHVHac-KoakBBcLcO2awGqyPQodafpuRwSscXZoTKNqQ5heSF9fWy8n1hEAUkY-Ncv2rBaESvGlT_NNyRUgpp-ds/s1600/b.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469022981937698770" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNtrOdiLP9fgpEbuUrAZHyJlODk0uwZz_LwY-2zeOyugZnbA6qvOImHVHac-KoakBBcLcO2awGqyPQodafpuRwSscXZoTKNqQ5heSF9fWy8n1hEAUkY-Ncv2rBaESvGlT_NNyRUgpp-ds/s320/b.jpg" style="height: 320px; width: 240px;" /></a></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Mounting fuel tank.</div></div>iWrenchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887386041202601099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8422212556262312151.post-49142090678087124032010-05-09T06:59:00.002+09:002010-10-21T00:52:42.827+09:0012<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbhNtvrpEAINz9vxI74pm4SS68UBu1v0l5h6_Au8fsrfeZnG_ZJgmTMUJ0QEtz1xA0y0g1O4w6A14KUY7ReT0KAL0rw_d9eBhhNBlIusNCuTNAqFsv8T7pe1yye5kqnzMdm1D5Mw4nCco/s1600/a.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469022367721551826" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbhNtvrpEAINz9vxI74pm4SS68UBu1v0l5h6_Au8fsrfeZnG_ZJgmTMUJ0QEtz1xA0y0g1O4w6A14KUY7ReT0KAL0rw_d9eBhhNBlIusNCuTNAqFsv8T7pe1yye5kqnzMdm1D5Mw4nCco/s320/a.jpg" style="height: 240px; width: 320px;" /></a></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Installing air filter box and wiring harness.</div></div>iWrenchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887386041202601099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8422212556262312151.post-71534705294309007752010-05-09T06:38:00.001+09:002010-10-21T00:51:59.982+09:0011<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6aPNFrC_arnh2Xp7b-MCiQg_SrtwV7ZaSRfYyuj5Z9REtp5BrfnRyB2a0SwWrT0vo87ZZJkY15FufrPaZu7HB3voKk6bIiWrbcG8zgufERFFmJUqxnTs78A_h135pGNG3Gm49NVFgqiM/s1600/d.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469017125933878466" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6aPNFrC_arnh2Xp7b-MCiQg_SrtwV7ZaSRfYyuj5Z9REtp5BrfnRyB2a0SwWrT0vo87ZZJkY15FufrPaZu7HB3voKk6bIiWrbcG8zgufERFFmJUqxnTs78A_h135pGNG3Gm49NVFgqiM/s320/d.JPG" style="height: 240px; width: 320px;" /></a><br />

After moving the bike from my lot to my house, my son didn't waste time and checked the repair manual to check for missing parts. It was my son's project now and I'm just a spectator and adviser from here on.<br />

After two weeks I found time to do some repairs on my project. It wasn't really much but I had to bring the bike to my house so that my son could share the fun too. Loading the bike to my main truck was easy since the bike have both tires installed. All I did was to roll the bike on to the other truck. I did have to give it a good push because the front tire is flat. Unloading the bike off from the truck was a bit of a challenge because it didn't have brakes but with the help of my son, we got it off the truck without problems.<br />

After installing the rear parts, I positioned the bike on the center of the truck and used tie downs to hold the bike. I slowly lifted the front side of the bike by using two car jacks and installed the front fork and front tire. I also had to assemble the brake rotors on both tires since they were dismantled too. I decided not to use the front 16 inch tire and fork from the GSX and just installed the original front tire and fork because I want to keep it in it's original state as much as possible. <br />

I planned to assemble the bike on the ground by pulling the parts using a chain block but my back was really killing me from sliding the engine so I decided to just assemble it on top of the truck. The first thing I did was to clear the truck's bed by moving the other parts again to my other truck. I pulled the engine to the center and turned it to it's side and mounted the frame. The order of installation sounds a bit in reverse but since I cannot carry the engine, I had to do it this way. Next I installed the swing arm, rear suspensions and the rear tire.<br />

Since the bike is so heavy, I decided to just slide the parts on to my other truck instead of bringing it to the ground. Sliding the parts made life a lot easier but it was still not an easy task since I had to do it alone. It was hard but fun and saved me from going to the gym.<br />

The bike was originally my senior's project. He stripped the bike to pieces, painted the frame and bought lots of parts for it but left it untouched for eight years. It was a pain to load the bike on my truck because all the parts were on the 2nd floor of his shop. The hardest part was to bring the engine down the stair. The stair is steep and narrow and the engine is really heavy. We had to bring the engine down one step at a time and it nearly broke our backs. <br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px;">Me and my son's new puzzle project, a retro Katana 750. My senior planned to restore it but never had the time. He painted the frame and the headlight cowl, new fuel tank, new windshield, new ECU, aftermarket muff, also bought a 16" front assy. to make it more racey... Extra parts only must have cost him more than 150,000 Yen so it will be a waste if the bike wont see the roads again.</span><br />
